True marathon runners know how to push themselves the extra mile, drown out the heartbeat pulsating through their entire body, and ignore that voice in their head screaming ‘give up’. Whether you run for exuberance, to inspire others or to improve your endurance, you’re bound to reach that euphoric state of ‘runner’s high’ when you complete 42 grueling kilometres at one of these Queensland marathons.
GOLD COAST MARATHON
For more than 40 years, the flat and fast Gold Coast Marathon has attracted runners from across the globe chasing a new PB (with a massive 60% of runners doing so) along the stunning ocean-front course.
The event has transformed since its humble beginnings in 1978. More than 27,000 participants from over 50 countries will turn up for one of the eight races including the Gold Coast Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon and the Garmin 2 kilometre Junior Dash.

Runaway Noosa Marathon
Noosa is one of Australia’s premier endurance destinations, and on 23 May the streets will come alive with the sounds of live music and fast feet for the Runaway Noosa Marathon.
Another fast, flat and friendly course, the marathon distance is four simple laps through the heart of Noosa, passing live music stages and packed streets along the way.
MCDONALD’S TOWNSVILLE RUNNING FESTIVAL
You may know Townsville for its short-and-sharp goat tracks up Castle Hill.
But on August 5, the entire city becomes a running track when participants conquer the two city loops and one Pallarenda loop that make up the McDonald’s Townsville Marathon.

MCDONALD’S BRISBANE MARATHON FESTIVAL

Where: Brisbane City
Turn your next Brisbane adventure into a fit-cation by conquering the McDonald’s Brisbane Marathon Festival.
You’ll run beside and over the Brisbane River, crossing several bridges that join the city centre to Kangaroo Point and South Bank, including a complete closure of the iconic Story Bridge and a rockstar finish at Riverstage.
The 2019 race saw the course change slightly and with such positive feedback, will be kept for 2020 – offering the perfect chance to chase a new PB.
7 SUNSHINE COAST MARATHON
The 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon is only a few years old (it started in 2012), but has quickly established a reputation for being a community event for every runner.
Whether you’re an experienced athlete or a first-timer, you can earn your stripes at this inclusive Queensland marathon.

Great Whitehaven Beach Run

The Great Whitehaven Beach Run, part of the Hamilton Island Endurance Series is one of the prettiest events possible as you traverse down the famous, heat-resistant silica sands of Whitehaven Beach.
The event offers something from the littlest runners to the serious athletes, with a 500m junior race to a 21.1km half marathon on nothing but sand (sorry calf muscles).
