8 of the best things to do with friends at night on the Gold Coast
Think the Gold Coast stops shining when the sun goes down? Think again. From the bright lights of Surfers Paradise to the salty-chic of Burleigh, there’s a certain energy that buzzes along the coastline that can only be experienced from dusk till dawn.
Intrigued? Here are 8 things to do with friends at night on the Gold Coast.
1. Raise the roof
Views and booze? The sky’s the limit. Literally.
Take your pick hopping around the array of rooftop bars on offer (which each offer a distinct vibe) because, as we all know, cocktails taste so much better at altitude.
Want to get to the Greek? Head to Bar Hellenika in Nobby Beach. Want equal parts elegant and laid back? The Island’s rooftop bar in Surfers Paradise has got you covered. Feeling a touch of glitz with a side of infinity pool? Don your Camilla kaftan and go to Nineteen at The Star in Broadbeach.
Swipe Swing right
Forget everything you know about golf because this swanky new venue has reinvented it.
Standing proudly next to Warner Bros. Movie World, Topgolf Gold Coast has made its Australian debut and is oh-so-much more than just your average driving range (plus it’s open until midnight every. single. day.)
Channel your inner Happy Gilmore and drive your way through three levels of golfing fun, mouthwatering eats, pumping tunes, multiple bars and event spaces – and hey, did we mention there’s a rooftop terrace? Yep, there’s that too.
The multi-storied facility is impressively high-tech, with climate-controlled hitting bays, and microchipped golf balls that measure the distance and accuracy of your shot AND record your score on one of the TVs in your private bay.
3. The main event(s)
Never one to shy away from the spotlight, the Gold Coast’s music scene is hotter than its sun-kissed locals.
Vibrant musicians and industry professionals from around the globe descend on the Gold Coast throughout the year to showcase and witness the best new Australian music.
4. Paint the town
If you believe trivia and karaoke are so yesterday, raise your glass to a new kind of night out at Brush & Barrel in Surfers Paradise.
With a sip (or two) and a swish of a paintbrush, you could be the next Picasso at the studio that allows you to paint, laugh and sing till your heart’s content, all whilst getting a little merry over a glass of vino.
Rather than just being left to your own devices, each night there is a new feature painting to recreate. You can take a peek at it online ahead of time and the studio’s clever instructor will be on hand to guide you (and make sure you don’t make a complete mess of things).
5. Glamp, your style
Not one for digging your own toilet facilities or sleeping on a blow-up mattress?
If you’re looking for a nature experience with a hint of 5-star, Nightfall Wilderness Camp has got you covered. This is secluded rainforest wilderness meets luxury (read: a free-standing bath, fireplace and natural spa pools) when you can channel your inner Bear Grylls while still channelling your Beyoncé.
In summer, you can open your canvas walls (don’t worry, there’s still mesh for the bugs) to relish in the surrounding rainforest while in winter you can keep it intimately closed, spending your eves relaxing in the free-standing bath or curling up around the fireplace. Pretty awesome, right?
6. Watch Hollywood’s biggest stars under the stars
If you list drinking beer and watching movies as two of your favourite things, keep the last Thursday of every month free and head Burleigh Brewing Co. for an open-air cinema experience.
Grab yourself a cinema snack box for one, filled with cured meats, antipasto goodies, cheese and dips and settle in for a night with the stars.
Tickets can be purchased online prior to the night for $15, which includes a complimentary schooner, or $20 at the door (with no beer). Get there early to nab yourself a seat!
7. Lunar leisure
When the moon hits your eye… that’s amore.
Soak up the moonlight and a different perspective of the coast with a night paddle along Southport to Wave Break Island.
Seaway Kayaking Tours offers the Full Moon Tour once a month so you can kayak to your heart’s content for 90 minutes before kicking back with a glass of wine and a platter whilst admiring the view of the city skyline.
8. To market, to market
Indecisive at the best of times?
Stroll through the decorated laneways to sample different cuisines from over 70 stalls for everything from Italian to Greek accompanied by some sizzling live beats at Miami Marketta. Or, if you’re a true carnivore, get your meat fix at BBQ Bazaar where you can expect 18-plus food vendors serving finger-licking norms including Meat Buns, Rosticceria and Smoke Barrel, a bar with a ‘wall of bourbon’, local live musos and more.
