ICYMI, the Gold Coast recently played host to the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where sporting’s elite frequented local haunts.

Alfresco dining is de rigueur on the Gold Coast with chic restaurants and hip cafes the places to see and be seen.

Don your best ‘pap snap’ outfit and head to one of the top restaurant and café precincts like Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach and Burleigh Heads.

There are more than 10 chef hatted restaurants on the Gold Coast so the choices in cuisine and atmosphere fit every taste and budget.

Keep a sharply casual eye out – that diner at the next table who looks just like Pink, Matthew McConaughey, Beyoncé, Bono or Diana Ross may really be them, as all have spent some R&R time on the Gold Coast.

If you really want to get up close and personal, head out to Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat for some relaxation and a chance to share a meal with Hugh Jackman, who happens to be the co-owner.

Most recently, the Gold Coast’s golden girl, Margot Robbie, was snapped at Mermaid Beach favourite Bam Bam Bakehouse, while Hollywood hot shot, Amber Heard, was spotted enjoying breakfast at Paddock Bakery in Burleigh Heads.

WHERE TO PARTY

Surfers ParadiseBroadbeach and the Southern Gold Coast are your best bets for bumping bits with celebs.

Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber, the Madden Brothers and One Direction are just some of the rich and famous who have partied or performed at the Gold Coast at Surfers Paradise hot spots like Sin City nightclub.

The glitzy and recently opened rooftop location, Nineteen at The Star, has already seen a swarm of celebs walk through its doors.

Usain Bolt was spotted lounging here during the Commonwealth Games, while the nominations announcement event for the 2018 TV Week Logie Awards in May saw the likes of Tracey Grimshaw, Grant Denyer, Jessica Marais, and Bachelor/Bachelorette heartthrobs Matty J and Samantha Frost grace the hotspot with their presence.

The interior is laden with gold hardware and marble detailing, along with an open kitchen and infinity pool area, with panoramic views along the Gold Coast coastline – long to be a favourite among the famous folk if you ask us.

Another celeb-studded spot is Aloha Bar and Dining – a tropical oasis tucked away in a Broadbeach back alley, only visible by a looming pineapple lantern.

This palm frond-filled and Hawaii-inspired space hosted the cast and crew of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ most weekends when filming in Queensland, with Tom Hiddleston and Mark Ruffalo in tow.

WHERE TO PLAY

There are no ‘velvet rope’ invitation-only beaches on the Gold Coast so you could be placing your towel on the sand and building sandcastles next to Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber, Pretty Little Liars’ Keegan Allen, Joel Madden, Nicole Richie and their families, or sharing surfing legends Kelly Slater or Mick Fanning’s favourite break at Kirra.

Chris Hemsworth *drools* has also been known to frequent the southern Gold Coast surf breaks like Snapper Rocks and Kirra, when he’s not living it up with Matt Damon and their families at Rainbow Beach, north of the Sunshine Coast.

If theme parks are your idea of fun, you may just run into Taylor Swift, Blake Lively or Russell Crowe and his kids at Warner Bros. Movie World or the Brangelina brood at Dreamworld.

If sports are your thing then grab your mates and head to a Gold Coast Suns AFL game. You know they’re cool when Snoop Dogg backs the team, fo-shizzle.

You can also make like greased lightning and head out of town and into nature. John Travolta took his kids for a koala cuddle in the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

BE A LOCATION SCOUT

Broadbeach is the place to be on July 1st, as Australian TV stars walk the Logies red carpet at The Star Gold Coast.

If you want to get in on the glamour, head along to line the red carpet from 4pm as your favourite celebs arrive in style. Hang around after, and you may spy some familiar faces as they head to exclusive pre and post-event parties. (#VIP)

Palazzo Versace in Main Beach is also famous for hosting A-grade celebs – we’re talking the likes of Drake, Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg and KIMYE.

The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s most popular movie locations, with famous flicks such as Muriel’s WeddingScooby DooPeter PanKokoda, The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and the fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean all completely or partly shot on the coast. If you’re a committed celeb hound, find out what’s being filmed nearby and see if you can casually drop by the set.

HANG WITH THE LOCALS

Grab a coffee from Piccolo Espresso, located across the road from Miami Beach, owned by ex-Olympic road cyclist Robbie McEwen. If the star-studded factor hasn’t got you racing there, maybe their acai bowl with coconut and granola will?

Hang out in Tugun where Mick Fanning resides in a gorgeous beachside mansion, or catch up with his surfer mates Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge at their uber cool Currumbin brewery, Balter.

The Gold Coast also has its share of home-grown celebs including Wolf of Wall Street up-and-coming Hollywood A-lister Margot Robbie, DJs the Stafford Brothers and sports stars Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew, Samantha Stosur, Emma Snowsill and Sally Pearson.

Keep an eye out and you may catch them visiting their favourite local haunts.
