The ultime boys trip: Consider this your Queensland bro-cation bucket list
Gather the lads, the boys or the wolf pack and get ready for some serious bromantic bonding on a road trip from Cairns to the Gold Coast.
We’ve put together the ultimate brocation bucket list to tick off as you travel down the coast – the perfect mix of adrenalin, adventure and sport. Plus, a few brewskis thrown in for good measure (of course).
Hunt for mud crab – Port Douglas
Forget bonding over a few beers, round these parts mates bond over mud crabs. Especially ones they’ve speared themselves.
Chanel your inner hunter and head into the wilderness in search for some tasty bush tucker with a local Aboriginal guide and a bamboo spear. Learn traditional hunting practices and see if you can find and catch your lunch along Cooya Beach.
Mountain biking – Cairns
Mud + mates + adrenalin = a day of mountain biking in Cairns.
What’s a bit of friendly rivalry between mates, right? Harness your competitive edge and hit the rocky terrain along the notorious Smithfield Trails. Race through the jungle, take in the views of the Great Barrier Reef from the mountain ridges, then hold on for dear life as you descend.
With names like the Wobbegong, Flat Snake and the Blue Marlin, if you can conquer these trails you’ll have some serious bragging rights when you get home.
Explore the reef – Whitsundays
We don’t care how much fun you had out in Airlie Beach last night, the best way to bounce back after a big night of jelly wrestling at Magnums is to hit the water for a day ocean rafting on the Great Barrier Reef. It’s fast, fun and the view is all kinds of awesome.
Zoom through the Whitsundays, sink your toes into the snow-like sand on Whitehaven Beach then throw on a snorkel for a glimpse of the stunning reef and interesting marine life below. You won’t want your beer goggles on for this view.
Camping – Fraser Island
Feeling bromantic? Spend a few nights under the stars on the beach at Fraser Island – the perfect place to relax, recharge and enjoy a spot of fishing on the beach.
Don’t get too comfy, though. Frasier Island is a four-wheel-driving hotspot, so fasten your seatbelts and get ready for a bumpy ride.
Skydive over the beach – Sunshine Coast
There’s nothing like a 70-second freefall from 15,000ft to separate the boys from the men. Luckily, you’ll be way too high and falling way too fast for anyone to hear your screams.
The Sunshine Coast offers some of the best beach skydiving around and some pretty amazing views to match. Fear will soon turn to stoke when you catch a glimpse of the stunning coastline and mountainous backdrop below.
Craft beer crawl – Brisbane
You might need a few too many cold bevvies after your fall from the sky, and Brisbane is the place to go for a craft beer crawl.
From New Farm to Newstead, West End and Milton, our craft beer capital has an ale to suit any discerning palate. Or, if you like your beer in a stubby and not served by a moustached man in suspenders, book a tour at the XXXX brewery and settle in for a day with Queensland’s favourite brew.
Ready. Set. Crawl!
Gold Coast Rugby Sevens (October 11-12)
What’s the point of a brocation if you can’t dress up like superheroes, drink beer out of a plastic cups and hurl Aussie slang in the direction of a sporting field, right?
The Gold Coast Rugby Sevens promises two glorious days of try-scoring action and 48 hours of off-field partying. Watch some world-class athletes, soak up the atmosphere, and then spend a few days recovering on the beach at Burleigh Heads. Trust us, you’ll need it.
