Guest Post: A guide to Queensland’s best day spas

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Kim Barnard from The Urban List rounds up some of the best day spas in Queensland that are guaranteed to stop you multitasking your way to a breakdown (even if only for an hour or two) and bring you back to your happy place.

It occurred to me recently, as I was trying to brush my teeth and eat a piece of toast at the same time (I know), that my life is a bit frantic. I find myself constantly rushing around, always feeling on edge and thinking about the (long) list of things that needtobedonerightnow.

I know I’m not alone. We are all working hard and juggling lots of balls on a daily basis. Work, kids, exercise, friends, family, groceries, work, sleep, work. It’s easy to get burnt out if we don’t get ample time to rest and, on occasion, treat ourselves.

So, in the interest of the mental and physical health of us all, I did a bit of research into the best places to go to truly R-E-L-A-X. Some may call it pampering, but I like to think of it as ‘maintenance’.

For the urbanite

Need some ‘you’ time, but need to get it on your lunch break? Here in Brisbane we’re lucky to have lots of options that don’t require you to travel far from the office.

Endota Day Spa

Located smack bang in the middle of David Jones in Brisbane City, Endota Day Spa is the perfect solution for the frantic multi-tasker. Get some shopping done and then let the Endota team work their magic on you – you won’t even notice you’re in the middle of a department store!

Treatment highlight:
Endotorama Endota – The famous Billabong footbath, half hour organic facial, and half hour massage.

Stephanie’s Spa Retreat

This is what I’m talking about! Stephanie’s is the real deal, people. So beautiful, so luxurious, it’s really not possible to convey the Stephanie’s experience in a couple of sentences. Think temples, tropical rain showers, and a starlit dome. Run.

Treatment highlight:
Opal Rasul Temple – Dry skin brushing, mud treatments, detoxifying steam, rain shower, and hydration. Amazing.

For the eco chick (or bloke)

There’s nothing like getting back to nature to get you re-energised. These spots are as pretty as they are relaxing.

Healing Waters Spa

Fancy hearing the sounds of the rainforest while you have your massage? Look no further. The Healing Waters Spa in Tropical North Queensland will be your idea of heaven. Green, lush, and oh-so-quiet, this is perfect for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle. The beautiful Sodashi skincare products are the icing on the cake.

Treatment highlight:
Sodashi Pure Radiance Facial – Warm compresses and a nurturing face mask will make your skin glow like never before. Seriously a winner.

Spa Anise

Located in the gorgeous Sunshine Coast hinterland, Spa Anise at Spicers Tamarind Retreat is perfect for the environmentally-conscious spa-goer. The spa uses only Waterlily products, which are free from all synthetic nasties, are made from renewable sources, and made in Australia, meaning you can breathe easy and relax.

Treatment highlight:
Botanical Bare Foot indulgence – An hour-long foot treatment that involves an essential-oil foot soak, pineapple exfoliation, clay masque, and a heavenly foot and leg massage. My feet need this.

For the beach-goer

Days of surfing and sunbaking can really take it out of you (apparently). Once you’re done with your sand time, put your feet up and delegate your relaxation needs to the professionals.

New, fresh, and a little bit funky, SpaQ at QT Gold Coast is the cool kid on the day spa scene. Bright décor and a playful ‘tude, help inject some fun into your spa experience.

Treatment highlight:
Thermal Massage – Using red pepper in a massage? Yes siree. But don’t be scared. It’s used to warm the muscles and helps to get all that tension out.

Ikatan Balinese Day Spa

Located in beautiful Noosa, the Ikatan Day Spa makes you feel as though you’ve been transported to a tropical Balinese village. Let yourself be pampered by the natural and organic products, while lying on the ergonomically-designed spa beds.

Treatment highlight:
Kharma Rejuvenation – I can’t go past a treatment that’s five hours long and includes a coconut scrub, facial, massage, and pedicure. And they even give you lunch! Sold.

For the ultimate luxury experience

Sometimes you need to kick it up a notch and treat yourself to something really decadent. And these places are special with a capital S. Out.Of.This.World.

Not just a spa, but a lifestyle retreat, Gwinganna is one of those places that goes well and truly beyond traditional day spa territory. The Gwinganna ethos focuses on creating a healthier life, and boy do they get you off to a good start. Beautiful grounds and facilities, delicious and nourishing, organic food, yoga and exercise options daily, and plenty of pampering options to indulge in; this is how it should be done.

Treatment highlight:
Comforting body cocoon – Begins with body brushing to encourage circulation before clays and oils are applied to your skin and you’re bundled up in a warm wrap. Add a scalp massage and a slathering of body lotion and you’re in heaven.

Spa Qualia

Spa Qualia is one of those places that should be on everyone’s bucket list. Perched on the tip of Hamilton Island, and surrounded by the incomparable beauty that is the Great Barrier Reef, this place is in a league of its own.

Treatment highlight:
Sweet Moments – The ultimate romantic destination, Qualia is the perfect place to indulge in a bit of couple time. This treatment starts with an aromatherapy massage (using chocolate oils), followed by a scalp and foot massage to get you feeling all loved up.
