Wandering across golden sand dunes at sunset with my Little Explorer.
Looking towards Cape Moreton on a gorgeous spring day recently.
Low tide on the beach between Dog Creek and Comboyuro Point.
A time and place to reflect. We love our beach wanderings on #MoretonIsland.
The boy and his magic tree at the northern end of Moreton Island. A southerly wind change is howling outside at The Cape this morning, so here's one of my favourite images of sunset near Main Creek with my boy a while back. This tree has nearly been claimed by the sea since. The northern end of the island is constantly being shaped and reshaped by incredible natural ocean forces.
Beach silhouettes at North Point. A great place for families to hang out and play.
Sunday at The Wrecks. A popular destination on the weekends.
My little storm boy exploring the Yellow Patch beach lagoon at sunset. In the distance, smoke drifts north from a fire on the mainland. Yellow Patch lies along the northern edge of Moreton Island, next to North Point. During the quieter months, we usually have this entire stretch of coastline to ourselves for sunset. There is a lovely grassed campground at North Point and there are usually some great lagoons along the beach for kids to swim in. Definitely one of our favourite spots on the island.
A remote and isolated outpost on #MoretonIsland, surrounded by sand dune wilderness and open seas. There are no bitumen roads on Moreton Island. The vehicle barge lands on the beach at The Wrecks. It can be a slow drive to The Cape via soft and bumpy sand tracks and at least 16km of beach driving. When the weather is wild or the tides are high or erosion is bad, we can be isolated for periods of time. Perched 100 metres above sea level, the Cape Moreton lighthouse precinct can often be exposed to some wild wind and weather conditions. We have endured a number of weather events including ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald with storm force winds of 130km/h.
Exploring the windswept sand dunes of the eastern beach. #MoretonIsland
A scoop of pelicans flying west at sunset past Heath Island on #MoretonIsland.
