Sunshine Coast honeymoons

Which Sunshine Coast honeymoon is for you?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Weddings are beautiful, exciting and a fantastic symbol of the love between two people. They’re also busy, stressful and something always goes wrong.

That’s why we have the honeymoon; the ultimate sigh of relief.

Here are some of the best honeymoon spots on the Sunshine Coast where you can leave the wedding dress and suit behind and just lounge around in a bathrobe. It’s more comfy anyway.

Let’s stay in tonight

Rumba Resort Caloundra

Rumba Beach Resort in Caloundra is close to the markets, beach, shopping centres and Kings Beach lagoon, which is awesome, but they spoil you so much here you won’t want to leave your room.

It gets even harder to tear yourself away if you book the ‘Romance and Pamper’ package, which ups the ante by giving you newlyweds massage oils, Swiss chocolates, champagne flutes and a bottle of bubbly.

If you can drag yourself away from your room you won’t be disappointed because there are six beaches within walking distance. Also, the best gelateria on the coast. Nice.

Lakeside luxury

Lake Weyba Cottages

When you drive down the long driveway and enter the grounds of Lake Weyba Cottages in Peregian Springs, you know you’ve made a good decision.

When you open the door to the Honeymoon Cottage and realise you have your own garden AND pond, you know you’ve made a great decision.

When you’re in the sunken double spa, eating hand-made chocolates, drinking champagne and watching a crackling fire, you know everyone will be jealous after you tell them about it. Perfect.

Hinterland hideaway

Lyola Sunshine Coast

You have two choices at Lyola Pavilions in the Forest: Hide or Seek. Hide and Seek is not a game but the names given to each cabin.

Hide sits on top of a forest stream and has an outdoor tropical shower and steamer chairs to lounge in. Tranquil just doesn’t do this place justice.

Seek takes a different approach and towers high in the air parallel with the canopy. Sunsets literally tickle your nose. You have to walk your way across the canopy boardwalk to get to it. Yes, this is a real place and yes, you need to book it now.

While you’re here, head to the Eumundi Markets and check out the restaurants that litter the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. You can probably see most of them from your view anyway.

Degustation and delights

Spicers Tamarind

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Spicers Tamarind in Maleny and considering it was my job to plan the honeymoon, I can’t thank this place enough. They did everything for me, I just paid the bill and took all the credit.

As you get out of the car there’s a friendly Sharpei snoozing in front of reception and she won’t even bat an eye when you walk by. This dog knows what the Tamarind is all about: laying back and leaving all your cares at home.

The Tamarind’s restaurant will make you second guess everything you knew about Thai and Australian cuisine, so get the Romantic Getaway Package and feast till you can barely walk. Then stumble back into your romantic cabin and slide into the cedar hot tub on your balcony, before lighting your pre-built fire (yeah you don’t have to lift a finger at this place).

In the morning, my wife headed to Spa Anise for a 60-minute massage and I made my way to Gardners Falls, which is a two-minute walk away. There’s a 10-metre high rope swing into a deep pool at the base of the falls. It’s awesome.

Twin peak paradise

Glass on Glasshouse Sunshine Coast

You know what’s better than looking out the window and seeing a mountain? Looking out the window and seeing two mountains. One for you and one for your newly significant other.

Two of the walls in each cabin at Glass on Glasshouse offer floor-to-ceiling glass so the wild kangaroos can get a good view of you as you jump in the freestanding double spa bath. Don’t worry there aren’t any people around.

These cabins are as eco friendly as you can get – even the gas fireplace’s blue flames are made from ethanol, which is sourced from sugar cane, so light it up and get cozy.

High-roller heaven

Makepeace Island Sunshine honeymoon Coast

Okay, this isn’t your everyday cabin near the river in Noosa. This isn’t even your average resort on a beachfront. This is actually an island for hire. Not just one cabin, not just the Bali hut… you get the whole island.

Sir Richard Branson and his mate Brett Godfrey (Virgin Blue Co-Founder) own Makepeace Island and it’s exactly what you would expect from a couple of billionaires.

It has its own boat to transfer you wherever you may need to go. I can’t imagine you would want to leave but you never know when you might want to go shopping.

Oh, and if this hasn’t gotten your attention yet, then I have three words: volcanic boulder bathtubs. Yeah, billionaires have awesome ideas.

Late nights, long mornings

Oceans Mooloolaba

You will want for nothing at Oceans. It has the best location, the most luxurious rooms, the friendliest staff and best of all they have a romance package that includes free bath robes and slippers. Essentials for a successful honeymoon.

On top of that you get French champagne, handmade Belgian chocolates and the most important thing of all – a 2pm check-out time. Which you will make great use of because of Mooloolaba’s best bars and restaurants are right at your doorstep.

After your great night out come back to your bed covered in rose petals and your bedroom bathed in moonlight. The room is so nice you’ll want to marry it, too.

So tell me, which one is your idea of the perfect honeymoon?
