6 things to do these summer school holidays in the Capricorn Region
The school holidays are coming so get out and about in the Capricorn Region with these awesome activities.
1. Shiny disco cave
Let nature provide a light show that would make Pink Floyd jealous. The Summer Solstice Light Spectacular is a natural phenomenon that happens from 1 December to 15 January, so hurry to the Capricorn Caves to watch sunlight pierce through a 14-metre vertical shaft and light it up like a disco ball.
2. Party time
The Great Australia Day Beach Party has beach sports, markets, music, street performers and even rides. So pack up your kids and a bunch of sunscreen because this party lasts 10 hours.
3. Wildlife watch
Get scaley at the Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary. Hold a snake, pet a koala and have a peek at more than 350 different animals. This is the only place in Central Queensland where sick, injured and orphaned animals are cared for, so it’s pretty special .
4. Snappy snack
Take a bite out of a crocodile at Koorana Crocodile Farm. The crocodiles are so famous here they were on TV, but that doesn’t get them off the menu. The guided tour takes through the farm before you get to munch on some croc meat and wonder why it tastes like chicken.
5. Market time
Forget Santa’s workshop, the Handmade Expo Market is coming to the Rockhampton Showgrounds. There are over 80 stalls of crafted, cooked and handmade goods. It shows up just in time for Christmas on 13 December. Gifts galore!
6. Culture snap
Cater to your curiosity about crocodiles. The Rockhampton Art Gallery is showing Snap! Crocodile Culture so you can learn how crocodiles affect the world from mangroves to Milan.
