6 things to do these summer school holidays in Mackay
What’s the best thing about summer? Weeks and weeks of school holiday fun! Here’s a few things to keep you entertained.
1. Spotting the nightlife
Do something different and try your hand at spotlighting in Eungella National Park. Head out in the night to see the shy creatures who say “NO!” to sunlight and “YES!” to skulking around in the shadows. It’s a gentle and interesting way to see the dark side of the forest.
2. Lagoon life
Make the most of the Bluewater Lagoon. This place is a steal (It’s free) and has a waterfall connecting two massive pools and kids’ play area to burn off that school holiday energy. Relax and throw a snag on the BBQ. You’ve done well.
3. Dam good camping
Pack your bags and roll out your swags, Kinchant Dam is a camping and fishing dreamland. If you have a speedboat, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring that either. There are no speed limits and so many fish even pelicans are sick of them.
4. Fly ‘n’ Float
Spoil the kids, if they were really, REALLY good this year. Keswick Underwater Adventures will fly you out over the Great Barrier Reef and then float you over it on their 36-foot glass bottom boat. Flying and floating, what an awesome day.
5. Decoration creation
Stop to smell the roses and build some Christmas decorations at the same time. December 9, The Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens will take your little ones through all the natural decorations plants grow themselves, then let imaginations loose to make something special for the Christmas tree at home.
6. Pirate training
Head down to Mackay Marina and check out the Mackay Yacht Club for a few lessons on how to sail. If you really like it, the Dinghy Division is just what you need to be the next Captain Jack.
