A girls’ trip to the country races [video]

Last week, I followed three corporate Brisbanites (yes I was the thorn among the roses) out of the city borders for a country race meet at the Burrandowan Picnic Races.

And you know what? I discovered there’s something special about the country races.

You’ve still got the formalities of fascinators, form guides and Fashions on the Field but the action doesn’t stop after the last race runs. It’s an opportunity to listen to live music, meet the locals and toast marshmallows under the stars.

The warm days and cool nights of autumn in Southern Queensland Country make perfect conditions for a trip to the track. So we packed our Sunday best, made the 300-click journey north west from Brisbane to the Burrandowan Racecourse and this is what we saw.

Special thanks to Burrandowan Picnic Races in Kingaroy for hosting us at the race meet and Lee Farmstay for hosting our stay.

Have you been to a country race meet before?
