You’ve seen them darting around the reef in large swarms in BBC’s Great Barrier Reef series, and perhaps, you’ve even encountered them yourself on a trip to the world’s greatest aquarium. You lucky bugger.

While often ignored by many as “fish soup” creating a backdrop to bigger, more interesting stuff, anthias are one of the most important players in the reef food chain. As usual, Richard Fitzpatrick has the full story:
