Packed itinerary: 10 international bloggers take a walk on the wild side
I’ve spent most of the last four weeks up in Tropical North Queensland enjoying the mildest of winters with sunny warm days and tropically cool nights.
Last week a group of 10 bloggers from around the world arrived in the city to explore, taste and share their experiences with their extensive audiences. I was there to show them around and share my Queensland knowledge. A more action-packed few days they’ll struggle to find.
Our exploration started with a trip to Canopy Artspace - an exhibition of indigenous art from around the state. The creativity and stories that are told here amaze me. I’m not a particularly artistic person but love the colours, simplicity and vibrancy of the Torres Strait work.
To show off the diversity of the Great Barrier Reef means mixing up the experience somewhat.
In three days we took the bloggers underwater at Green Island to encounter Seawalker, took them up in a chopper and landed on a sand cay, and then strapped tanks to their backs and gave them a real SCUBA diving adventure.
Each of them write for very different audiences, so the scope of their stories will vary vastly. I can’t wait to read about how they felt.
One of my favourite things for the week was a trip into the rainforest at Silky Oaks Lodge. Darren Rowse from ProBlogger gave two seminars during the trip with one taking place deep in the jungle… well in luxurious surrounds deep in the jungle!
I went for a bit of a wander after lunch and took some macro photos of the colours that can be found there. At first glance the trees are just shades of green and brown, but on closer inspection the entire rainbow leaps from the foliage.
*Check out more pics from the week in the gallery at the end of this post.
Our final day together had us out at Agincourt Reef north of Port Douglas, one of my favourite coral reefs. Poseidon are a seriously professional team, with a slick operation and the three dives just got better and better. My apologies for an unedited movie this time, but it should give you an idea of how fantastic the coral is out there:
To read about the bloggers’ adventures I highly recommend taking a look at their sites which can be accessed here:
Next week I’ll be bringing you a tale of my recent trip to Fitzroy Island off Cairns, including a turtle release and a submarine experience!
